'Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi' is a campaign launched by the Department of Pharmaceuticals in association with Central Pharma Public Sector Undertaking, to provide quality medicines at affordable prices to the masses through dedicated outlets called 'Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendra'. These provide generic medicines at much lesser price. The protency of these medicines are same as compared to expensive branded medicines available in the our market.
The Jan Aushadhi initiative will make available quality drugs at affordable prices through dedicated stores selling generic medicines which are available at lesser prices but are equivalent in quality and efficacy as expensive branded drugs.

To ensure the availability of quality generic medicines at affordable prices, the Government of India launched the Jan Aushadhi Sugam app. Its sole purpose is to provide details about the availability and pricing of generic medicines being sold at lower prices at the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadi Pariyojana on the second Jan Aushadhi Day. PM Modi said, "The expenditure on treatment is lower than before. I am told that so far, crores of poor and middle-class people across the country have been saved Rs 2000-2500 crore due to Jan Aushadhi Centres."
PM Narendra Modi today interacted with the beneficiaries of Jan Aushadhi Yojana. The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadi Pariyojana seeks to provide generic medicines at a very low cost to people. Till now, over 6,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras have been opened in the country where generic medicines are available at a fraction of the cost of branded medicines.
